Stuart Robson is hoping he will be guesting once again for Newport Wasps against Premier League champions Hull at the Hayley Stadium on Sunday (tapes-up 4pm).

It is a double header for the fans with the Hull meeting followed by Newport Mavericks' Conference League meeting with newcomers Scunthorpe Scorpions.

And the reason for the late start on Sunday is to allow travelling Wasps fans a little more time to recover from the long journey from Berwick where the Wasps are in action on Saturday night.

The 28-year-old Robson suffered a heavy fall in Wasps' win over Glasgow last Friday and had to withdraw from the meeting after clattering into the safety fence and briefly losing consciousness. He was awarded the race in which he punctured before tangling with Claus Kristensen and falling in heat seven.

Sunderland-born Rye House rider Robson said: "At the moment I feel fine and getting better by the day. I am due to ride for Rye House at Sheffield tomorrow night and provided I feel OK after that meeting then I'll be fit for Sunday.

"I don't remember anything about the fall at Newport. I obviously hit my head quite hard and I know it was around the temple area because that's where it was quite sore."

Robson is a popular guest for the injured Craig Watson and he added: "I like riding the track at Newport. It was excellent for the Glasgow meeting, well prepared, because in some previous meetings it had been a little patchy in places. But it was probably the best I had ridden at Newport."

Robson won his first race in which Shane Parker fell and Parker is out of the return, Newcastle's James Grieves taking his place. Grieves top scored with 14 for Newcastle in Sunday night's 48-42 win over Hull.

Wasps leave tomorrow for the Scottish trip, opening with the Glasgow return, going into the match with a seven-point advantage, followed by the Edinburgh return. On Saturday they conclude at Berwick when the Shielfield Park track, just over the border in England, is around the town's football ground.

Tim Stone, Newport promoter, said: "We had a good tour last summer and we have every intention of carrying that on this year."

l A collection for the injured Craig Watson at the Welsh Open on Sunday realised £820. Stone said: "I have been asked by Craig to say a massive 'thank you' to all those who made a contribution."

l Newport Mavericks' meeting at Armadale, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed because the track is not available.
