Aneurin Preece Plaid Cymru THE candidate for Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales in Torfaen is Aneurin Preece a local man who lives in Cwmbran where he grew up. He attended school in Cwmbran and Ysgol Rhydfelin, Pontypridd.

He obtained his degree in law from the University of Glamorgan and lectures part time at a leading university as well as being in business locally. He has been chairman of a regional committee for his party and is chairman of Plaid Cymru Torfaen.

He is a parent and his partner is a primary school teacher. He has been active in politics for nearly 20 years and was recently an Assembly candidate. He gained huge support in the local authority elections and continues to work on behalf of the community. As a local resident he is aware of problems faced by local people and will fight to ensure the people of Torfaen have a voice in the political process.

"Many people have become fed up with politics so why bother? Well we live in a democracy and your vote is your right, nobody can take that away from you, it's your chance to let the politicians know how you feel about them, especially in areas like Torfaen. Are you really happy about the way things are run?

Ask yourself if you are happy with your council, who is your Assembly Member, when did you last see your Member of Parliament?

"You really don't have to vote for the same party if you don't think they are doing a good job. Do we still believe the political promises given to get our votes, do we trust our politicians? What about the war in Iraq and student top up fees, why does the health service seem to be getting worse despite the best efforts of the nurses, doctors and auxiliary staff? If our streets are so much safer why is anti-social behaviour such a problem?

"What can we do? Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales put people at the heart of its policies, replacing council tax with a fairer system, increasing the basic pension, scrapping student top up fees and putting more police back on the beat by cutting bureaucracy. We can do all of this by getting better representation at Westminster and you can help. Here in Torfaen we really need change, do we want a 'yes' man or someone who will speak out for the people?

"This is your election and your chance to show the government how you feel. It's time to stop voting for 'professional' politicians and start voting for people, we are the people and it's time we were heard. I will make one promise in this election - if elected I will be a hard working full-time constituency MP who is prepared to speak out when needed. Your vote could really make a difference."
