THE Brookfield campaigners told councillors the site could be developed to accommodate pupils from nearby Oakfield as part of an amalgamation of both schools, cutting down the surplus places and ensuring staff and pupils from both schools stay together.

The proposals will be considered in greater detail by the council and the decision will now be deferred until August.

Speaking after the meeting campaigner Paul Underwood said: "We are pleased that they are giving time to review our proposals that will hopefully allow the community of south-west Cwmbran educational stability in the future.

"We have been given an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate what provision could be made."
