FILM stars, models and sportsmen will tee off at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort in an all-star golf tournament.

A ten-strong line-up from America, including Samuel L Jackson and Sylvester Stallone, will take on a ten-strong European team over the August bank holiday.

They will be under the leadership of non-playing captains Colin Montgomerie and Mark O'Meara.

Visitors will also be able to spot US actors Andy Garcia, Haley Osment and Chris O'Donnell teeing off against model Jodie Kidd, former Wimbledon tennis champion Boris Becker, five-times Olympic rowing gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave, Cold Feet and Murphy's Law actor James Nesbitt and DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans, all playing for Europe.

More names are yet to be added to the USA and Europe showdown between August 27 and 29 - the brainchild of ITV presenting duo Ant and Dec. Rookie golfers Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly said the event would appeal to viewers across the UK.

At the launch of the event yesterday, Mr Donnelly said: "The Celtic Manor is a beautiful site for the tournament.

"It is ideal and is the perfect place for a tournament like this. It will be a fantastic sport entertainment event rather than a celebrity-based reality show."

Competitor and popular TV and radio presenter Chris Evans, who has a handicap of 15, said: "Golf is a magical game and captures everyone's interest, everyone relates to it. It is the number one sport in the world." Jodie Kidd, with a handicap with 18, said she was looking forward to competing.

She said: "I am used to competing against men in polo games and racing.

"I am quite competitive and I am sure it will be great fun." Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas have also been tipped to join the line-up - on different sides.
