PUPILS of Newbridge Comprehensive are being helped to get back to a normal routine in the aftermath of Monday's tragic school minibus crash.

Seven of the ten pupils from Hafodyrynys who were involved in the accident returned to school yesterday.

They were travelling to school on the bus when it was in a collision with a Skoda car and overturned on the A472 to Crumlin on Monday morning. A 12-year-old pupil, Jasmine Allen, died. The Gwent coroner has been informed but an inquest has yet to be opened.

Two other pupils are still recovering from their injuries, and one of them is still in hospital.

Newbridge Comprehensive head teacher Allan Raybould held a meeting with the children who returned to school yesterday and their parents. He said in a statement that the school felt it was important for youngsters to return to a normal routine.

"This will help in the process of the entire school coming to terms with the tragic accident this week.

"Pupils involved in the accident have been returning to school and professional counselling has been offered," he said.

One of the pupils involved, 12-year-old Naomi Welsh, was being treated at the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff.

Yesterday she was transferred to Morriston Hospital, near Swansea. Her condition was said to be stable.

And Craig Jones, 15, who was being treated at Nevill Hall Hospital, in Abergavenny, for a broken pelvis, has been discharged.

Prayers for all those involved in the accident will be said at morning service at St Paul's Church in Newbridge at 9.30am on Sunday.

The driver of the minibus, from A1 Minibus Hire in Hengoed, and another man have been arrested and released on police bail since the accident. Gwent Police are still appealing for witnesses. Contact 01633 838111.
