Neil Collins will be looking to maintain his impressive form as Newport Wasps bid to get another win on the road - at Hull tonight in the Premier League.

Collins, in his 27th season, began the season with an average of 6.45. He is currently on an average of 7.83, achieved from 11 meetings, scoring a paid 92 points from 47 rides.

The widely-travelled Collins lists Hull among his former clubs and the 43-year-old will be all out to maintain his splendid form and he has proved this season that he clearly intends achieving his burning ambition.

He has made it clear that he would love to gain a 30-year testimonial in the sport and have one big farewell meeting for his services over the years.

If Collins achieves that milestone he deserves to fill the stadium - wherever the meeting is held.

There is little doubt that he has a superb racing brain and one of the finest professionals to grace the Newport track. It is a privilege to watch him race.

Tim Stone, Newport promoter, delighted with the capture of Collins, a Stoke asset who rode at Somerset last season, said: "He is such an unassuming rider who is very happy riding for us."

Wasps continue their hectic schedule at Somerset on Friday evening in the Premier Trophy and have a home double header on Sunday, against Edinburgh followed by Armadale in a Conference clash with the Mavericks and then at Reading on Monday.

l Stone's knowledge of the rulebook helped Wasps to victory at Exeter on Monday - on their second success at the County ground track.

He protested that Exeter were planning to rider replacement for the injured Ray Morton. Stone explained: "Teams cannot use rider replacement for an injured rider if they have not appeared for the team. Sometimes the rule book goes against you but this time it helped us." Wasps won the Premier Trophy meeting 47-43 but just missed the bonus point.

Morton is out of action with a wrist injury and Exeter had to bring in Conference League rider Ben Barker who failed to score in three rides.

l Jamie Westacott will ride at number one for Newport Mavericks in their Conference League meeting at Wimbledon tonight. He moves up the order for the injured Scott Pegler and the Mavericks will use rider replacement for their injured skipper. Pegler is recovering from a broken left ankle suffered in a crash against Rye House.

Mavericks: Jamie Westacott, Scott Pegler (rider replacement), Danny Warwick, Billy Legg, Karl Mason, Lewis Dallaway, Sam Hurst.
