GWENT'S world champion boxer Joe Calzaghe says he won't fight again if he has to give half his earnings to his estranged wife in a bitter divorce battle.

The furious 33-year-old said estranged wife Mandy, 34, was planning to use the legal example set by footballer Ray Parlour's ex-wife. She successfully staked a claim on a third of his future earnings in a landmark appeal court hearing.

Calzaghe claims his wife of 10 years, Mandy, is planning to net half of his future earnings.

He said: "I didn't want to go public, but I have been forced to - my next fight will be my last if this happens.

"It's absolutely disgusting that I am being forced to consider giving up boxing - something I have worked at all my life.

"I have worked at my boxing since I was 10 years old, and I have built my career myself."

The row comes a week before Calzaghe's fight against Mario Veit.

Last July the Appeal Court ruled Parlour's ex-wife Karen should have a third of the Premiership star's future earnings, on top of two £1 million homes, a £250,000 lump sum, and £12,500 a year maintenance for each of their three children, because of her support over the years.

Calzaghe added: "I am not Ray Parlour - I don't get paid what these Premiership footballers get, the money I earn is minuscule compared to them, and I am risking my life in the ring.

"I am not going to let this happen.

"I have always been a good dad and done the best to bring up my children. I want my money to go to them - for their future."

Mandy Calzaghe was unavailable for comment.
