LABOUR Party members supporting rebel Blaenau Gwent Assembly Member Peter Law in his General Election campaign - standing against the party - could face expulsion and tear the local party apart.

Peter Law now has a list of supporters who are current or past members of the Labour Party.

This includes former Blaenau Gwent councillor Rex Herbert who retired after 52 years of service.

The 78-year-old told the Argus: "I joined the party in 1949 and have been a member ever since.

"We are being dictated to from above and are being told what to do. "I want the Labour Party to learn the lesson that they cannot tell us what to do. They are not going to tell me who to vote for."

The Welsh Labour party said the rules state that anyone who stands as a rival candidate or acts as their agent or signs their nomination papers automatically excludes themselves from the party.

But those who support rival candidates are dealt with on an individual basis.

A spokeswoman said: "These are the rules and they are pretty clear but we have a General Election to fight and will deal with this in due course."
