Mads Korneliussen, one half of Newport Wasps' dashing Danish duo, made his Swindon Elite League debut this week.

The 21-year-old from Aalborg , a popular figure in the Wasps line-up with fellow countryman Kristian Lund, made his mark in Swindon's Elite League success over Belle Vue on Tuesday night, scoring a paid seven points in the 46-44 success and was due to ride again last night in the home Elite League meeting against Coventry.

And Korneliussen's points included a win in heat two - his first ride at the Blunsdon track.

Korneliussen, has stepped in for the injured Oliver Allen who suffered shoulder ligament damage after a crash involving teammate Jan Jaros in a meeting with Reading.

The Dane was even better for Swindon in their 49-41 home win over Coventry last night.

He collected nine points (eight, plus a bonus from five rides), including a w in heat two and then won his third heat. The only disappointment was an exclusion in his second ride.

And the Elite League experience can only benefit Newport who take on King's Lynn at the Hayley Stadium on Sunday (tapes-up 2.30pm) in the first leg of their Premier Trophyclash. It should have been the second leg but the midweek meeting at the Norfolk Arena was called off because the track was under water.

l Nineteen-year-old Lewis Dallaway takes the place of Karlis Ezergailis in the Newport Mavericks' line-up for their Conference League meeting with champions Mildenhall at West Row tomorrow afternoon (tapes-up pm).

Mavericks team manager, Peter Towersey, said: "With Karlis on Wasps duty it gives me a chance to give an opportunity to a squad member and see how he is developing. I have already told Lewis there is no pressure - just as we told youngsters Billy Legg and Sam Hurst last season. The best way for these youngsters to improve is to have experience of racing.

"I will try to give them all a run during the season and see how they go and if someone does really well they may select themselves."

Mildenhall are not the power of last season but now that the club is under new management they are looking to step up into the Premier League at the end of this season.
