MR Bullock's murder is the latest in a series of tragedies which have hit the Bullock family.
In 1999, Mr Bullock's step-sister died of a drugs and alcohol overdose. His brother, Jason Bullock, died a number of years ago after falling from the George Street Bridge.
A close family friend said yesterday: "No family should have to go through so much pain."
It is believed Mr Bullock's mother, Gwenda, and step-father, George, yesterday returned to Newport from their home in Ilfracombe, Devon.
