CWMBRAN Town's players are straining at the leash to return to action after yet another call-off last week, according to manager Brian Coyne.

The Crows are in Welsh Premier action tomorrow against Caersws at Cwmbran Stadium and they will be praying that it does not rain as last week's home match with champions Rhyl was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

"The boys are just desperate to get on to the park," explained Coyne, who admits the drainage problems at Cwmbran Stadium are more than a concern. "It has been very frustrating for them, but I have to give the players tribute because they have kept their heads up and the attitude has been right.

"It would be very easy to go into the weekend not quite right, with half a mind thinking that the game would be off anyway, but I am sure that will not be the case."

Club officials have enlisted the help of water pumps, just in case it does rain, because it has been suggested that even a slight drizzle can jeopardise a match at the Stadium since work was done on the running track last year.

"It could be all hands to the pumps," joked Coyne. "Hopefully the game will go ahead regardless now and that is the most important thing.

"The results over Christmas have worked in our favour and we are still right in the pack. If we can pick up a couple of wins we will be in great position."

Tomorrow's visitors Caersws have taken advantage of Rhyl's enforced free week to move up into second place and the match will not be without spice as they are traditional rivals of Coyne's old club Newtown, where he spent more than 12 seasons.

"It should be pretty interesting," Coyne said. "I don't think they liked me much when I was at Newtown, but they have five of the players who played under me there.

"They have their own style of play that is not everybody's cup of tea but it is effective, you only have to look at the league table to see that.

"They also have some of the most experienced players in the league and I think you could take three of their players and they would have more Welsh Premier League appearances than my entire squad."

He added: "But we won't have anything to fear. On our day I would fancy us against anyone to be honest."

Coyne is still waiting for international clearance for winger Jamie Edwards and is "chasing it up at the Australian end," but he will welcome back midfielder Kris Thomas and winger Simon Heal after suspension.

Top goal scorer Jason Welsh is also available for selection after missing last week.

Squad: Wesson, Green James, Perry, Coughlin, Fowler, Hanbury, Heal, Thomas, Dimond, Welsh, Mainwaring, Mohamed, Hurlin, Fernquest, Plant.
