RYAN Giggs admits his international career will be a "failure" if he doesn't get to a major championship finals.

The clock is ticking for 30-year-old Giggs and he may be thinking that he will never appear at a World Cup or European Championships and Welsh success is the only thing missing from his cv after a glittering Old Trafford career.

The Manchester United star said: "Everyone is striving to get the team to qualify for a major championship. "The way I look at it is that in your international career that would be viewed as success. If you don't qualify then a lot of people and also the players would see that as failure because that is what we are all playing for.

"I am used to success at club level but it hasn't happened internationally but hopefully we can do that, starting on Saturday."

After sitting on the sidelines watching Wales' stuttering start to the World Cup qualifiers, Giggs wants to take out his frustration on England at his home ground Old Trafford on Saturday.

Giggs, who joined the squad yesterday despite fears that he would be held back an extra day by Manchester United, said: "It was frustrating to miss the first two matches, so it is good to get back into the swing of things.

"I was disappointed to miss the two games (1-1 and 2-2 draws with Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland respectively), especially because it was through suspension and not injury and it happened so long ago.

"It wouldn't have been quite as frustrating if we had more positive results but we didn't so we are looking to get a result on Saturday.

"It is a big occasion, there's no bigger game than playing England."

Depending on how the sides line-up, Giggs could play opposite old team-mate and close friend David Beckham, but despite knowing the Real Madrid man's game inside out, he insists that won't be much of an advantage.

He said: "It is great for me personally to play against the lads from Man United plus guys like Nicky Butt and of course David Beckham.

"A lot of people know Becks' game but can't do anything about it, that's what makes him a quality player. "But they have quality right through the team and on the bench and we are under no illusions that we will have to play very well to get a result."

He added: "It will be a bit strange to be playing at Old Trafford but I will be going out to enjoy it."

Many believe Wales are heading to the Theatre of Dreams for what could turn out to be a nightmare.

But Giggs is confident, despite blows such as having Robbie Savage suspended and Sven-Goran Eriksson's side being boosted by the return of Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney.

He said: "We know that we are capable of doing it and we have got the players who can hurt them.

"If we play to our potential, like we did a year to 18 months ago, then we can get a result."
