Tony Atkin, pictured, recovering from a broken arm, hopes to be back on the track at the start of next month. The 38-year-old Welsh-born speedway rider, in his second season with Newport Wasps, suffered a broken left arm in the home meeting with Rye House on May 9.

"I am getting better by the day," said Atkin, who obviously misses Sunday's home Premier League meeting with Stoke Potters, his old club (tapes up 2.30pm).

He added: "That's disappointing but it's an even bigger blow to be missing so much racing. Of course I've been injured before - but not right in the middle of a season. The last time I was out through injury was at the end of September and I only missed three meetings.

"I am due for another X-ray a week on Wednesday and I will know a lot more after that. But I've set myself a target of being back in action by the first of next month."

Robbie Kessler returns to the Stoke line-up after suffering right knee cartilage damage, travelling back home to Germany for treatment from a sports specialist. Three meetings in as many days will certainly provide Kessler with a stiff test - at home to Exeter tomorrow night followed by a trip to Newport and the return with Exeter on Monday.

Schoolboy Billy Legg will be back in action for the GMB Mavericks on Sunday, riding against Stoke Spitfires in the Conference League, following the Premier League meeting, providing fans with another double-header Legg, 15, from Swindon, has recovered from the broken leg he suffered on the opening day of the season.

Jamie Westacott also rides for the Mavericks while in the Spitfires line-up is Wasps' reserve Luke Priest and Cwmbran's Tom Brown.
