In our occasional look at the antiques market Prime Time's GARRY BATT finds a a classic piece of oak furniture which would look well in any home

THIS is a pleasing piece of 18th century provincial antique furniture. This chest on stand will have been made during the reign of George II and is pleasing proportions with good colour and patination.

This oak chest on stand would have been made by a country carpenter for a small manor house or yeoman farmer. It is an unpretentious piece made for storage in the parlour or the bedroom.

The chest has a very well-shaped lower section with a good arrangement of three drawers around a shaped apron and probably retains its original brass handles. It has cabriole legs and pad feet which are again typical of the George I and George II periods.

This classic piece of 18th century English oak furniture would be a good buy in the region of £1,500-£2,500.
