At an informal ceremony in the Dock Manager's Office, Barry Docks, on Wednesday week, the Dock Manager, T Carpenter, presented long service awards in respect of the ambulance movement to the following members of his staff at Barry Docks: W E Foley, 35-year bar, T D Davies, 25-year-bar.

Ald J P Bennett and his daughter Joan Jones, will be appointed Mayor and Mayoress of Barry, at a ceremony at the Memorial Hall on Monday next.

L Alexander, late Channel Pilot, addressed the members of the No 1 Branch, OAP, on the experiences of the Channel Pilots from the opening of Barry Docks.

In the House of Commons on Tuesday, Raymond Gower, MP for Barry, asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many improvement grants had been made in Wales during the last three years respectively.

Dr J V V Lewis, a Guy's Hospital medical student, who obtained degrees of MB, BS, in the recent London University examination is the grandson of the Late Major Edgar Jones and of Mrs Jones of Barry.

Three Dinas Powis boys, Brian Fowler and Andrew Jacobs of the Murch School, and Darren Sully of St Andrew's Church in Wales School, represented the county of South Glamorgan at the Football Association of Wales' Nation Under-11's six-a-side tournament.

As part of the school's centenary celebrations, the Barry Town Mayor (Cllr Allan Maidment) visited Cadoxton Infants' School and presented a plaque to one of the pupils, Martyn White.

The Appointment has been announced of the new Deputy Commander for the Army in Wales. He is to be Colonel John Hoope.

Mrs Sullivan of Coychurch Rise, Barry, was the winner of the Hoover "guess the weight of the cake" competition held in Dan Evans recently.
