A MONMOUTH woman drove at her partner on purpose after a row, causing him to go flying over the roof of her car, a court heard yesterday.

Beverley Davies, aged 30, of Geoffrey Drive, denies dangerous driving and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to Lee Christopher, on December 6 last year.

Newport crown court heard from Darayas Shroft, who witnessed the incident from a cul-de-sac off Dixton Road.

Mr Shroft said a minibus pulled up in the cul-de-sac, Mr Christopher got out and began walking back down Dixton Road. He said a woman driving a blue Vauxhall Astra car - Davies - then turned around in the cul-de-sac and drove off down the same road. "Then I just saw a body flying over the roof of the car," he said.

Sgt Martin Wilce added that close to where Mr Christopher was lying on the right side of the road, there was a scuff mark on the kerb and a tyre mark in the grass verge.

Giving evidence, Davies said she and Mr Christopher had "heated words" because she didn't want him to go off with a group of friends from the pub they had been in, then she decided to drive to her friend's house.

She noticed the minibus had stopped and she said her car drifted across the road towards Mr Christopher at 10mph, intending to stop and talk, when he ran in the road and jumped on the bonnet.

Mr Christopher, who admitted being "quite inebriated at the time" told the court he realised Davies was driving behind him and stepped into the road to flag her down. "I was shocked at the sight of the car and jumped onto the bonnet," he said. Proceeding
