YOUNG Newport musicians are bringing the world-acclaimed Schools Proms to a sparkling and stirring close on Bonfire Night.

Caerleon Comprehensive School's orchestra were selected for the important role in the Royal Albert Hall following their performance at the Music for Youth Festival.

Head teacher Adrian Davies said: "We are absolutely delighted. It is quite an achievement."

The school has performed in the proms previously but this is the first time they have had the "blue ribbon" slot.

Five coaches are going from Caerleon and proud parents will join an audience of more than 3,000.

Newport Music Centre senior wind band have also been selected to play following their superb performance at the Music for Youth Festival.

The senior wind band will open the proceedings on Tuesday, November 4, with a resounding fanfare and will bring the audience to its feet with the national anthem.

For the dazzling tone poem, The Star of Dreams, they will be joined by dancers from the Rubicon Dance Company.

The following night, the orchestra will bring the event to a close with Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No 1 (Land of Hope and Glory), A Salute to the Big Apple, and Lord of the Dance.

Nearly 40 groups will fill the Royal Albert Hall with music from the country's most talented youngsters. It will be presented by musician and Classic FM presenter Lisa Duncombe, composer Howard Goodall and lyricist Richard Stilgoe.
