VISITORS to Greenmeadow Community Farm are seeing spots in front of their eyes.

But it's not a medical emergency - it's the view they get when they cast their eyes over the latest arrivals at the Cwmbran farm.

Nine piglets were born at 8.30pm on Wednesday to Helen, a Gloucester Old Spot porker.

Jackie Guscott, education officer at the farm, said the piglets look great and are covered in black spots.

She said: "What's unusual is the spots normally take a few weeks to become prominent, but these spots are really there. We weren't expecting that. We have had piglets in the past, but not with the spots."

Mrs Guscott said the piglets, which will become quite large in the following weeks, are being fed by their mother, and will be sold on as weaners.

The birth of the piglets is the latest in an eventful year for the farm. Mrs Guscott said: "We had a lot of goat kids born in the summer, and quite a few calves. Our stock is expanding all the time."
