TEENAGER James Pritchard suffers from a form of autism - but overcame the condition to gain the best GCSE results in his school.

James, who has Asperger's Syndrome, gained three A*s, 7 As and a C from Risca Community Comprehensive school.

The 16-year-old, from Manor Way, Risca, is now looking forward to getting back his social life after locking himself away for the past two years to concentrate on school work.

"I didn't think I would do half as good as I have and it is just the best day of my life," he said. "I've already had a few glasses of champagne to celebrate but I'm going to go to town with my mates and live the high life."

James - who plans to study a Masters of Science at Crosskeys College - thanked teaching staff at Risca Community College, especially Alan Parsitt, the science and key stage 4 support teacher.

His mother, Deborah Pritchard, said: "We are just over the moon and absolutely thrilled because he has had a lot of problems. It has been hard for him with his difficulty but he has worked so hard that he deserves it." She added: "I thought he would do well but not this well so we are really pleased for him."

And Risca pupil Nicky Pashley, who has severe autism, gained a B, a C and an E in his GCSEs.
