A hairdresser from Pontllanfraith and his Welsh cob rode to success at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells last week.
Byron Jones and 11-year-old Red, with the pedigree name Cefngelli Bouncer, beat off a stiff field to scoop up the Harness Class Championship.
A delighted Mr Jones said: "It is something I have wanted to win all my life. "I can't describe how I feel and I still haven't come back down to earth yet."
His wife Pam said: "We've had Red since he four and he's an incredible horse."
He recently won an award in front of the Queen at a competition in Windsor.
Red is ridden by the couple's ten-year-old daughter Ashleigh and is used to draw a wedding carriage for the family's business.
