WITH the summer holiday starting, you need to find something for the children to do, and the Roman Legionary Museum is a good place to start.

With four different weeks of activities for both children and adults to get involved in, as well as the big re-enactment weekend on August 9 and 10, you won't be stuck for entertaining ideas.

Archaeology week looks at how we know about the Romans through games and activities.

You will be able to sort through metal detector collections, find buried treasure and even get your hands on some real Roman bones.

In the fresco workshops you will be able to create your own mini-masterpiece to take away with you, we provide the fresco and you just add your imagination!

The week of Roman childhood lets you have a go at dressing up as a Roman boy or girl, trying out writing and maths, and if you don't fancy Roman school, then try playing a few Roman games, like knucklebones. You'll be able to be meet Doctor Severus, the best doctor in the Roman world.

He'll tell you all about the gory world of Roman medicine and surgery. There's how they would have treated headaches, arrow wounds and where exactly they would put maggots - it's enough to make your eyes water.

So with something different and original every week, you just can't be bored. The events carry a £1 charge.

The Fresco and Roman medicine workshops need to be booked in advance.
