AS MICHAEL BALDWIN begins a life sentence today for the murder of stepdaughter Jenna Brookfield, her parents spoke of their grief and shared pride in their tragic daughter.

Baldwin, 36, formerly of Limekiln Road, Pontnewynydd, was sentenced yesterday for the 15-year-old's murder after a jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty.

He was jailed for life after killing the schoolgirl at their then home in Abersychan, burying her in a shallow grave, and sending text messages and making phone calls claiming to be from the missing girl. He even made a TV plea for her to come home.

After the verdict, Jenna's father Nigel Brookfield, from, Abergavenny, said: "She was a beautiful young girl, very intelligent, with a wonderful sense of humour, and a great future ahead of her.

"She will remain in our hearts forever."

Mum Desiree, 40, said: "Jenna's death has not been in vain. My children can grow without the influence of this man in their young lives and I am confident that they will grow to make me proud of them in the future."

Baldwin was branded a callous killer and deceitful liar by police, who became suspicious of Baldwin and put him under surveillance.
