THOUSANDS of people from all over Gwent attended an It's A Knockout Bonanza in Bailey Park, Abergavenny, yesterday to raise money for the Hospice of the Valleys, based in Tredegar.
Coronation Street stars Nikki Sanderson and Ryan Thomas, both 19, who play Candice and Jason in the soap, took part in the entertainment prior to a round of It's A Knockout, and met fans and signed autographs.
Ryan said: "We've got fantastic weather and it's nice to be here and have a break from filming because we usually have to work on a Sunday."
The event organiser, Christine Macarthy, was pleased with the way the day went.
"It's gone really well.
"Last year there were 4,000 visitors and we're hoping to have matched that this year."
The Hospice of the Valleys, founded in 1985, is made up of a team of doctors, specialist care nurses, social workers and bereavement support team and therapists who provide care at home for patients and families who are at any stage of a cancer- related illness.
They were hoping to raise several thousand pounds from yesterday's event.
The organisers had hoped to provide a bar and a pop concert featuring local bands, but the plans had to be shelved at the last minute after concerns were voiced by Gwent Police over certain safety aspects.
