Newport's Phillip Price (pictured) has urged the Welsh public to roar him to victory when he continues his assault on the Wales Open crown at the Celtic Manor today.

The Ryder Cup hero starts his third round this afternoon and after playing solid, consistent golf in his previous two rounds he knows that he has every chance of winning his first European Tour event since the Portuguese Open in 2001.

And with the added bonus of home support he knows that the odds are firmly stacked in his favour.

"It's nice to have the support and is definitely a boost for me," said Price.

"The crowd yesterday were better than Thursday and hopefully it'll be better today.

"I can definitely use it to my advantage and if I'm flagging then I know they'll pick me up."

This weekend's golf is bound to be a nerve racking affair but Price knows that his exploits in the Ryder Cup last September will stand him in good stead.

"I'd like to think that that victory is going to be an asset to me," said Price.

"I know that when I'm feeling nervous again I will be able to play properly and pull through."

The Welshman hit six birdies and no bogeys on the way to his second round 66.

It left him on 10 under par for the tournament, just two shots off the leader Ian Poulter. And following his second round Price revealed that he feels a score of 18-20 under will probably win this year's Wales Open.
