COLIN Montgomerie (pictured) looked set to miss the cut after another mixed day at the Celtic Manor.

Monty endured an awful start, bogeying the third, but the big Scot made up for it with birdies on five and seven before a further bogey on 10 left him one over par.

Monty's frustration soon boiled over and on the eighth fairway a photographer was on the receiving end of the Scot's infamous short temper.

The final few holes didn't go any better for Monty and the Scotsman now faces a nervous wait to find out whether he will be competing in tomorrow's third round.

Meanwhile, Newport's Phillip Price started today where he left off yesterday and is well set after a decent second round.

Price finished his second round of the Wales Open nine under par and is well in contention with the final two rounds to play.

The Ryder Cup hero birdied holes three and five and went round the front nine in 34.

His back nine was equally as consistent and after shooting three consecutive pars the Newport man birdied the 13th and 15th

As we went to Press, Price led at nine under after birdying the 17th, with South Africa's Darren Fichardt. Scotsman David Drysdale was on eight under par.

In fact had Drysdale not bogeyed the 17th then he could well have found himself heading the leaderboard.

Drysdale started the second round on four under and has made up four shots to cement his early place at the top of the leaderboard.

The 28-year-old fired an incredible seven birdies.

Yesterday's joint leader Nick O'Hern, along with England's Jonathan Lomas and Zimbabwe's Mark McNulty, were seven under par after the first nine holes.

Jean Van de Velde endured another difficult day on Wentwood Hills and has definitely missed the cut. The Frenchman was one of the big names that did turn up for this year's tournament .

He started the day on one over par but it was all downhill from there for the former runner up of the The Open as he fired seven bogeys.
