JOE Calzaghe has promised 'fireworks' when he makes his rescheduled 13th defence of his WBO super-middleweight crown.

The Newbridge idol was fuming last night after his bout at Cardiff's International Arena with American Byron Mitchell was switched for a third 'and final' time to June 28 due to television scheduling.

Trainer and father, Enzo, vowed today: "Joe insists there'll be fireworks when he gets into ring. Joe will be at hiss best and Mitchell won't know what'll hit him."

The clash was originally pencilled in for May 24 at Newcastle but was switched to the Welsh capital on June 14 when a date at the CIA became available. Now, though, much to Calzaghe's annoyance, the fight has been delayed a further two weeks.

But Calzaghe snr said: "We have been assured by Frank Warren (Calzaghe's manager) that the fight won't be switched again. The constant delaying is a pain.".

"The boxer added: "I'm a professional and will get on with it. I do have personal concerns though. I normally train twice to three times a day for ten weeks in preparation for a fight - but I've been training 23 weeks for this bout. I know my body's capabilities and am being careful that I don't burn myself out.

"Also I'm cautious of being ring-rusty. I have only fought one-and-a-half rounds in the last ten months when I destroyed Tocker Pudwill in Newcastle."
