NEWPORT-born Nathan Blake was ecstatic after helping Wolverhampton Wanderers land a place in the Premiership 19 years after they last appeared in the top flight of English football.

Blake scored the second Wolves' goal on 22 minutes in their 3-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, in the Nationwide League First Division play-off final.

It will be the fourth time that Blake will appear in the Premiership after spells with Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and, ironically, Sheffield United.

He said: "I have to admit that Sheffield were absolutely fantastic but we had our game plan and it worked.

"I've been there (in the Premiership) before and it's so nice to get there again. I was brought here to do it for Wolves and it's nice to succeed."

Wolves took the lead when Mark Kennedy scored in the sixth minute before Blake's strike and a third on the stroke of half-time by Kenny Miller finished the Blades.

And Welsh cap Blake also praised Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray who saved a penalty. The striker added: "I have to say a big mention to Matt - he was out of this world, what a keeper!"
