PLUCKY Gwent market girls hope their new bare trade policy will be a charity winner.

Twelve women from Abergavenny market abandoned their stalls to reveal almost all for a saucy calendar - and two local charities are set to benefit.

The daring dozen stripped off and posed for the calendar with just the Welsh flag to hide their modesty.

Nerves were quickly conquered as the women sat back, posed, and thought of the good causes they are supporting - the Noah's Ark Appeal to build a children's hospital, and the St David's Foundation Hospice Care.

Florist Karen Reed, who runs Buds and Bows from her home, and has a stall in the market three days a week, had the job of organising the calendar. She said the months of planning paid off.

"I was nervous before we went to have the pictures taken but everything was fine once we were in there," she said.

"It was such a great help having everybody else around and we had such an amazing time.

"There were so many laughs and so many memories were created that day.

"I had hair, make-up, nails and everything done before the photos because I wanted to feel special for the day, and I did feel good about myself.

"It was a one-off and a once in a lifetime chance, something that I will never be able to do again."

Juliette Bainham, from the market snack bar, called the experience "fantastic".

"Normally I hate having my picture taken so having it taken with no clothes on was terrifying, but it was a wonderful experience," she said.

"It will be something we can all remember. The whole day was fantastic."

The calendar will be released in August and will be sold in Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre, Abergavenny Market, Richards Ironmongers, Abergavenny, and Staceys in Abergavenny, Pontypool and Cwmbran.
