IF you missed Harper junior then here's your chance to catch both father and son when Roy Harper plays Cardiff next week.

The acclaimed songwriting family are in the Coal Exchange tomorrow night when Roy headlines with a special appearance from his son Nick.

Nick played Cardiff and Swansea in the spring with success but this weekend's gig will be that much more special.

Roy is one of the most respected singing-songwriting-guitar playing talents the UK has ever produced.

Songs, such as his most well known ditty I Hate the White Man, made him a legend among 70s bedsit dwellers and international rockstars alike.

He's jammed and recorded with the best of them, from Pink Floyd, he sang on Have a Cigar on the band's Wish You Were Here album, to Jimmy Page who can be heard on many of his 70s records.

His incredible singing voice, matched with acute lyrics and accomplished music have formed a style playable only by himself.

Well known for his eccentricity and larger than life presence, at a performance at a recent Glastonbury festival, at the end of a song about the joys of fertility, the 61-year-old man moaned and groaned into a echo chamber for a good ten minutes and a horde of the latest generation of unwashed stared adoringly at him.

He's still got it, but new material is a bit thin on the ground. His latest unnamed release, available on the current tour, is a compilation of early singles, outtakes and demos featuring previously unreleased material from the early to mid 60s.

Hear Roy and Nick Harper in the Coal Exchange, Cardiff Bay on Saturday, October 19. Tickets are £14.50. Dial 029 2049 4917 or surf to www.royharper.com
