GODFREY Crew's Morris Minor van is 32 years old and just keeps soldiering on ... In a sponsored run from Land's End to John O' Groats - almost 700 miles - the old van raised £1,532 in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance.
Mr Crew, of Christchurch Road, Newport, is press officer for the Royal Regiment of Wales Comrades' Association, and when he heard the air ambulance badly needed funds, volunteered himself and his trusty Morris for the job.
"We did the run in 21 hours which is remarkable for such an old girl," a proud Godfrey said.
John Barrett, the regimental association's secretary, said: "It was a magnificent effort. Godfrey did us, and Wales Air Ambulance, proud."
The Royal Regiment of Wales Comrades' Association is holding a reunion at Ringland Labour Club on Friday starting at 7.30pm.
"We aim to increase membership," Mr Barrat said. "The event is open to ex-members of the RRW, the South Wales Borderers, the Welsh Regiment, the 2nd Monmouthshire Regiment or any of their associated TA units.
"I would be grateful if people would telephone me on (01633) 664988 or Mr Crew on (01633) 278292 so that we know how many people to expect."
