GLAMORGAN all-rounder Adrian Dale (pictured) will stage one of the biggest fund-raisers of his benefit year on home ground later this year, writes Paul Tully.

A race day in his honour will be staged at Chepstow racecourse on October 23 - not far from his new home and that of his parents.

Four of the six races will be sponsored by companies and people supporting Dale's benefit and it is hoped that cricket clubs from all over South Wales will take parties to the event to swell the crowd by around 3,000 people.

"We expect most of Adrian's Glamorgan team-mates and many other sports personalities to be there," said Howard Gadd, one of the organisers on Dale's behalf.

"SA Brain and Co. are sponsoring a hospitality tent, we will be handing out Adrian Dale badges and many other events will be going on on the day, including a special raffle.

"Adrian was brought up in Chepstow, played for Chepstow Cricket Club and has recently returned to live in the town.

"He is a very popular performer and we hope the general public will support his benefit and enjoy a lovely day at the races.

"I am involved in sport for the disabled and Adrian has helped me on a number of occasions."

The race-day idea originated after Gadd received a donation towards Dale's benefit from Chepstow director John Deer, who offered whatever help he could.

"The idea developed over a cup of coffee," said Gadd, "and though it will come late in Adrian's benefit year, it will be a very special occasion for him."
