POLICE say they are growing increasingly concerned about the safety of a Gwent grandmother who went missing more than a week ago.

Margaret Ann Llewelyn, 54, has not been seen since she left her home in Middle Way, Chepstow, at 4.30pm on Monday May 6.

Her distraught husband, David Llewelyn, appealed for anyone who had seen her to contact police, but officers say no information has been brought to their attention about the missing woman.

Mrs Llewelyn is described as being in a "depressed state" and had been receiving treatment at St Cadoc's Hospital in Caerleon on and off since January.

Her husband says she went missing one week before her disappearance last Monday and was found heading towards the River Severn at Bulwark.

PC Mike Roy, of Chepstow Police, said: "I would urge members of the public to get in contact with us if they have any information, no matter how trivial, as soon as possible. "We cannot say for sure, but we believe Margaret left the house without any money and the credit card was left behind.

"We know that Margaret has been on medication in the past and will need medication for the future. We are now growing increasingly concerned for her safety."

Police launched an extensive search of the area on the day of Mrs Llewelyn's disappearance.

The popular grandmother of two is well known to the people of Chepstow for the many years she worked in Bulwark Chemist.

Last week, her husband David said he had left the house for only ten minutes when his wife disappeared.

He told the Argus: "Margaret had been on overnight stay from the hospital. She had a panic attack earlier in the day, but she is able to get over these, and when I went to walk the dog she was doing really well.

"I want to appeal to anyone who has seen her to contact the police immediately." Mrs Llewelyn is described as 5ft 2ins, of proportionate build, with shoulder- length red to grey hair. She wears glasses at all times.

She was wearing a light blue t-shirt, jeans or blue trousers, blue trainers and an open denim shirt.

Anyone with information should contact Chepstow Police on 01291 623993.
