CALDICOT ended their season in style but still promotion from the Welsh League, Division Three, remains in the balance.

They must now wait until rivals Pontypridd complete their fixtures. Caldicot, five points ahead of Pontypridd, defeated Skewen 4-0 last night and Pontypridd have three away fixtures left.

Barrie Vassallo, Caldicot player-manager, said: "Pontypridd have three difficult games but it is out of our hands. We have to sit back, praying and hoping things go wrong for them."

Caldicot, three up at half-time, scored through Tyrone Tucker, Steve Edwards, John Sanderson (penalty) and Andrew Sadler. Sanderson later received his marching orders along with a Skewen player, following a flare-up.

Pontypridd's remaining games area at Troedyrhiw, Dinas Powys and Pontlottyn. Albion Rovers completed their Division Three programme with a 2-1 home win over Troedyrhiw and they too must play a waiting game.

Goals from Matthew Woolf and Neil Swift gave Albion a win and their future in the league will be decided when it is decided how many teams will be relegated.

Terry Wilkins, Albion chairman, said: "You don't survive 70 years without being strong. We can only sit and wait for decisions to be made. We have given ourselves a little bit of hope with this win.

"If the worst happens to us and we go out then we are strong enough to bounce back." Caerleon suffered a 1-0 Division One defeat at Garw.

Fields Park-Pontllanfraith continue their battle to preserve Division One status with a home game against Gwynfi tonight. The game is being played at Fields Park's ground in Newbridge (6.30 pm).
