WALES has got a new captain -- and the four Gwent players are reunited for Saturday's Six Nations Championship finale against Scotland at the Millennium Stadium.

Swansea flanker Colin Charvis (pictured) not only comes in for his first start of the championship, but he is handed the captaincy for the first time as well.

Charvis has been preferred to Rob Howley as captain in succession to Scott Quinnell, whose knee injury keeps him out and will also ensure he is rested for the South African tour in June.

The Swansea back row forward, normally a flanker, completes an incredible return to favour.

After playing against world champions Australia last November he went walkabout, opting to return to his Jamaican roots with his sister rather than train with the Wales squad in January.

He claimed that he didn't believe there would be training in the week of the Heineken Cup quarter-finals, but he was still left out of the Wales reckoning.

He returned for Wales A and appeared as a replacement at Twickenham. Now he is elevated to the Wales captaincy when he has never even been appointed leader of his Swansea club side.

Newport lock Ian Gough has been recalled after missing the England game with a muscle injury. It will be the second time Gough, Newport colleagues Andy Marinos and Chris Anthony, plus Ebbw Vale's Iestyn Thomas have been in the same team. It could be an omen because the last time provided Wales with their only championship victory this season, against Italy.

Marinos has recovered from a dislocated finger and retains his place as the specialist inside centre.

The recall of Charvis and Gough are two of five changes in the Welsh team after the England rout, and there could be a sixth.

Bridgend pair Dafydd James and Gareth Thomas are both dropped. Rhys Williams, another player with explosive pace, makes his first start for Wales on the wing.

And there is a surprise return for another Swansea player, Mark Taylor, because he has played only two games since returning from a serious knee injury.

He has played just one game for his club and one for Wales A, but that is obviously enough to convince Hansen he should be back in the starting line-up.

And at hooker Barry Williams makes the starting line-up after going on 12 times in a row as a replacement. His last start was against Ireland in 1999.

There will be a further change if Stephen Jones recovers from injury, knee trouble this time, after missing the England game with back spasms.

If he fails to make it Iestyn Harris will remain at outside half. Wales team: K Morgan (Swansea), R Williams (Cardiff), M Taylor (Swansea), A Marinos (Newport), C Morgan (Cardiff), S Jones (Llanell) or I Harris (Cardiff), R Howley (Cardiff), I Thomas (Ebbw Vale), B Williams (Neath), C Anthony, I Gough (Newport), A Moore (Swansea), N Budgett (Bridgend), C Charvis (Swansea) captain, M Williams (Cardiff). Reps: S John (Cardiff), R McBryde, C Wyatt (Llanelli), G Thomas (Bath), D Peel (Llanelli), S Jones (Llanelli) or I Harris (Cardiff), D James (Bridgend). Kick-off 4.45pm.

His captaincy is limited to a handful of appearances, but coach Steve Hansen, in his final game as caretaker, has no doubts.

"Colin is an explosive athlete and a world class player. We've seen a big change in his attitude," he said.
