WELSH play-maker Jason Koumas, pictured, is set to complete his £2.4m switch to West Bromwich Albion from Tranmere Rovers later today - just days after his move to the Hawthorns looked dead and buried.

Baggies boss Gary Megson is eager to sign the 22-year-old midfielder before the transfer-deadline on Thursday - and Koumas was in the Midlands last night to discuss personal terms and is expected to undergo a medical at the Division One play-off chasers.

"I have been at Tranmere since I was a schoolboy and I think it is time to move on," Koumas told the Argus.

"All the transfer speculation has been a little bit unsettling, but it is a big decision for me.

"A move to West Bromwich could turn into a dream move for me because if they are successful in the First Division play-offs they will be playing in the Premiership next season - and playing Premiership football is one of my dreams."

The move should establish Koumas' position in the Welsh squad and see him become a big part of the new era of Welsh football under manager Mark Hughes.

Another personal ambition of Koumas is to start for Wales - and tomorrow's Millennium Stadium friendly against the Czech Republic is as good a chance as he's ever likely to get.

With Ryan Giggs, Gary Speed, Mark Pembridge, Carl Robinson and Andy Johnson not involved, Koumas is expected to be named in Hughes' starting 11 on the left-hand-side of midfield with Robbie Savage and Simon Davies in the centre and John Robinson on the right flank.

"There have been a few injuries and withdrawals and I am looking to take my chance," said Koumas, who has one Welsh cap to his name as a substitute for Nathan Blake in Wales' World Cup qualifying match with Ukraine in Kiev last June.

"Hopefully I will get a chance to impress," he added. "But just to be involved in the Welsh set-up is brilliant because working with top Premiership players can only improve me both mentally and physically."
