A TEENAGER hit with a bottle while enjoying a night out with friends has said the attack has left him afraid to go out.

Paul Flecknell, aged 18, (pictured) of Cromwell Road, Risca, was with friends in the Rolling Mill public house in the town when the unprovoked attack occurred.

Police are treating the incident as a serious assault and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack at around 10pm last Saturday to come forward.

Mr Flecknell, father of six-month-old Courtney, said he was completely baffled by the motive behind the attack, which has made him fearful to go out on the town. He said: "I was on the dance floor with some of my mates when a little scuffle broke out to the side of me.

"Out of the corner of my eye I saw somebody walking towards me but I didn't take much notice of him because the scuffle was nothing to do with me. "The next thing I knew I woke up in a bed in the Royal Gwent Hospital suffering from concussion.

"I also had an inch-and-a-half cut on the top of my head that required six stitches. "Four days on I am still getting very dizzy if I get up too quickly from a chair. "I have no idea why this guy attacked me but I won't be going out with the boys for a long-time because it will only play on my mind.

"He could do it again because he might have it in for me. Had I done something to provoke the man I wouldn't have complained but I did nothing and I think that is wrong - he could do it again to someone and seriously hurt them." Landlady Christine Coughlin said: "It was international day and people were in high spirits.

"A scuffle broke out on the dance floor but no sooner had it started, our bouncers broke it up. It is very unfortunate that this happened."
