Review: Serendipity (PG)

IT'S CHRISTMAS... bring forth the romantic schmaltz! And who better to star as the soppy lead than the king of romance John Cusack?

He stars as Jonathan, a thirtysomething documentary producer, who bumps into English rose Sara (Kate Beckinsale) and form an unforgettable bond over mounds and mounds of frothy steaming hot chocolate.

One day of complete bliss and the lady of his dreams disappears from his life saying if it is meant to be they will find each other again one day.

A few years later and Sara is due to wed her musician boyfriend, but decides to take a trip back to New York with her one-day romance playing on her mind.

You can basically guess the rest and therefore the outcome.

Sounds as if director Peter Chelsom has had two much saccharin in his hot chocolate, or been indulging in too many Christmas tree chocolates in front of a showing of Cinderella.

Fortunately the acting is superb and the film direction is warm and glowing; in some ways Serendipity is adorable but it's also highly forgettable.
