GWENT'S unbeaten WBO World Super-Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe will make the tenth defence of his title against former IBF World Champion Charles Brewster at the Cardiff Ice Rink on February 9, it will be officially announced later today.

The 29-year-old fighter from Newbridge, who is one of only two undefeated British World champions, will be back on home turf after defeating American Will McIntyre in Copenhagen on the Tyson bill in October - but it isn't the venue he really wanted.

Calzaghe, who now lives in Cwmbran, said the 2,800- capacity ice rink - home to Cardiff Devils ice hockey team - was not big enough to house his fans.

But Cardiff's International Arena, just 100 yards away, and where the Welshman beat German Mario Viet in April, is booked up and Cardiff Castle is definitely out of the question because of the possible problems with the weather.

Calzaghe's fight against Viet was a 5,000 sell-out and tickets for this extravaganza will be like gold dust.

The recently named British Boxer of the Year, voted for by the Boxing Board of Control, has fought - and won - 32 fights as a professional, with 27 knock-outs to his name. But American Brewster could be his toughest test yet.

After wiping out McIntyre in the fourth round, Calzaghe was set to go State-side for his next bout, but the terrible terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on September 11 made the boxer change his mind about fighting in the United States for the time being. But this clash will probably be snapped up by American cable company Showtime and beamed to millions of homes across that country.

Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren has called a press conference today at Cardiff's Ice Rink to formally announce and promote the fight.
