SPINNER Robert Croft joined the celebrating England Test cricketers today and backed the Glamorgan youngsters to carry on the good work against Yorkshire in the County Championship at Scarborough.

Glamorgan have a good chance of escaping relegation from Division One after a superb victory over Surrey.

They were foiled by the rain in their attempt to follow up against Essex at Cardiff on Saturday.

Though still in the relegation zone, they are just eight points adrift of Surrey and 14 behind Lancashire, but with a game in hand.

They will find it hard to close the gap further over the next four days against the champions elect, for whom victory could clinch them the championship.

"We are coming off the back of a fantastic win against a Surrey team full of internationals," said Croft before joining the England party for the fifth Test against Australia on Thursday.

"Yorkshire is another, even bigger challenge for the youngsters which they have to meet head on, and I believe they can surprise a few people.

"A good result would give us a good chance of remaining in the First Division." Glamorgan acting captain Adrian Dale added: "Our destiny is in our own hands, but Yorkshire will be tough, especially as they have the championship champagne on ice. "But we have everything to play for, our batsmen are scoring runs and our bowlers are putting the ball in the right areas and we have to continue in that vein."
