NEWPORT Wasps' latest recruit, 20-year-old Peterbor-ough asset Jason King, will make his debut at Hayley Stadium against King's Lynn in a double-header meeting on Sun-day (tapes-up at 2.30pm).

King goes in at number four for the Wasps in the Premier League clash in place of the absent Michael Coles and promoter Tim Stone believes he will lesson the burden on the middle order.

Stone said: "I was very surprised when Somer-set got rid of him, but he is looking forward to getting on track for us.

"He left Somerset at a time when they were looking to strengthen other areas but he will come in and lift the weight off our middle order.

"We have tried to use rider replacements for some time and it did get the job done but I believe we can have more success with Jason in for those four rides."

Stone revealed that the youngster, no stranger to the Hayley Stadium as he has appeared for Swindon and Essex-Arena there, could have been in Wasps colours long before now.

"Jason has ridden at our track a number of times and he is actually a rider who I tried to sign earlier in his career.

"He is a young lad with a lot of potential and hopefully he will be made to feel welcome."

Other new rider Henrik Vedel, who had a paid eight points in his home debut against Reading last weekend, will be hoping to improve on his blank outing at Exeter on Monday.

"We are happy with how Henrik is doing," Stone said.

"He is here to be his own man this season while looking to next season. "It was a more than respectable home debut last week."

Wasps are still waiting for word back from Denmark as to the fitness of Mads Kornel-iussen as he headed home for treatment on a shoulder injury.

In Sunday's double-header the Mavericks face a tough test against Conference League title chasers Oxford Silver Machine.

Start-time on Sunday will be 2.30pm as usual and there will be an increase of £1 for admission due to the two matches.
