Newport Wasps' Danish rider Mads Korneliussen, battling to get back into action, could ride at King's Lynn tomorrow night with the help of a body support on his ligament-damaged shoulder and arm.

The 22-year-old from Aalborg returned home for both private and hospital treatment on his troublesome right arm, the damage received in a freak fall after crossing the winning line against Reading in the Knock-out Cup.

An anxious Stone said: "I had Mads on the phone yesterday and he has been to the hospital again. He is due to have a practice 'skid' today in Denmark and is trying to fit himself with a shoulder and upper body support.

"If he comes through the 'skid' he will be at King's Lynn tomorrow night. Otherwise I expect to see him at our place on Sunday."

And the one thing Stone will be seeking at the Norfolk Arena is for his side to restore dented pride. Wasps trail by 23 points after Sunday's dismal display and they can't be expected to haul back that kind of deficit - but they can be expected to put up an improved scrap.

Although recent arrival Henrik Vedel only scored a paid five points from as many rides on Sunday, Stone was pleased with his effort. He said: "I know he didn't score many but he was not being pushed around by the opposition. He wasn't going to be pushed out.

"I was not disappointed because he had the effort.

"We made one start out of 15 and that was when Neil Collins won our only heat. They made 14 starts - 14! They made the first turn and were gone. The only good thing about the afternoon was the performance given by the Mavericks."

King's Lynn ride against the Isle of Wight tonight and with the Islanders down towards the bottom with the Wasps a Lynn victory would be welcome.

Wasps ride against the Islanders on Sunday with a round of the British Under-15 Championship forming part of a double header (tapes up 2.30pm).

Mavericks ride at bottom club Sittingbourne on Saturday. They are newcomers to the Conference League this season with a second successive win uppermost in Mavericks' thoughts. The meeting is the second half of a double header, Mildenhall first on track with a noon start.

Mavericks team chief Peter Towersey said: "We have been beaten only twice at home, and both defeats were fairly controversial.

"If we can maintain a good strong home presence - and this Saturday is probably our best chance of an away win - we can maybe finish half-way up the league which would be better than recent seasons."

Mavericks still have four matches to arrange, at home to both Buxton and Weymouth and meetings at Armadale and Oxford.
