New company Reseiclo - Rescued Wood, launches a new service to organisations in Newport and the surrounding area to recycle their waste wood.

Up until now, the majority of waste wood produced in the area has been sent to the landfill site.

A lot of that wood can be used again for DIY, or mulch for the garden and animal bedding or even just fire wood.

This helps to stop the landfill site from filling up and may reduce the effects of global warming in the long run.

The company already has one prestigious customer for their service.

Taylor Woodrow Construction, which is building apartments in Cardiff Bay and is the main contractor for the new International Sports Village, is disposing of its wood waste through Reseiclo.

At its premises in Alderney Street in Newport, the wood is sorted into various categories and can be purchased by the public.

The company also manufactures items made from the reclaimed wood. The first products available will be decking tiles, picket fencing and compost makers. Kindling wood is also for sale.

Director, Trefor Puw, got the idea for the business while studying Environmental Management at the University of Wales Newport.

He said: "The waste wood collection service we provide is cheaper, more convenient and more flexible than hiring a skip, and it's good for the environment too!"
