A GRIEVING family are still waiting for answers following the death of a young Newport father more than six months ago.

Police now say they have completed their investigation into the death of 32-year-old Richie Arnold and an inquest is likely to be heard in spring. No action is being taken against five youths who were arrested in the days that followed his death.

Mr Arnold, suffered from epilepsy, was found in his flat on the Old Barn Estate, St Julians, Newport, in late June.

"We still don't know the facts surrounding his death," said his sister Claire, who is now living in Scotland.

"The waiting is really hard. We just want final closure, to know what happened to him."

She emphasised they had no criticism of the police handling of the investigation.

She said: "The CID officers have been fantastic."

It was understood that a party was held at Mr Arnold's home the night before and police began treating his death as suspicious.

Five teenagers, aged 14 to 18, were later arrested in connection with incident and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

But a spokeswoman for Gwent Police confirmed they were no longer on bail and no action was being taken against them.

"We've now received the final pathologist's report. The criminal investigation is complete and it's anticipated the coroner's inquest will be heard in early April," she said.

Miss Arnold, who is expecting her fourth child this spring, paid tribute to her brother after his death describing him as a "kind and gentle man" who had no enemies.

He also left his nine-year-old son, parents Glyn and Marilyn, and a brother, Julian.

Mourners packed St Mary's Church in Stow Hill for Mr Arnold's funeral last September.

Miss Arnold gave the eulogy, saying her brother was someone who "loved life and everything about it".
