NEWPORT County manager Peter Beadle has blasted AWOL defender Terry Evans, telling the player, 'you've let this club down.'

Evans, 29, is in his second spell at County after signing midway through this campaign, but after being dropped for last weeks defeat at Weymouth, he appears to have turned his back on County.

Evans failed to report to four separate training sessions this week and didn't report for Saturday's draw at Bognor, even though manager Beadle had included him in his starting line-up.

Beadle has rung Evans several times in the past week, as have several other members of his staff, but none of the calls have been answered.

Beadle said: "I am hugely disappointed in Terry, he is a senior player and should know better, he's acting like a schoolboy and has let the club down.

"I have no problem with Terry being disappointed at being dropped, but to react like this - in a totally unprofessional manner - simply isn't acceptable.

"I would have been more than happy to talk to him about my decision, he was an important part of my team and has been great for us this season.

"We have tried on numerous occasions to ring him, but Terry clearly isn't interested in being a part of things here.

"I can't now consider him part of the football club and I know the board are bitterly disappointed and feel let down.

"They have the view that unless he explains his actions, he is no longer welcome at the football club."

Evans is now in a position whereby he must contact the club if he is determined to leave, the Argus understands he is keen on a move to Merthyr, but County hold his registration and have not received seven days notice on the player.

"If Terry wants to continue to be elusive then he'll end up not being able to play again this season, because the club hold his registration," Beadle said.
