WALES' largest recruitment event hit Newport yesterday offering a multitude of career, training and educational opportunities to the many visitors.

Argus-backed Job Scene The Roadshow returned to Newport Centre for its third year where it was opened by the city's major Councillor Ken Critchley.

More than 40 exhibitors took part, including Acorn Recruitment and Training, British Gas, Careers Wales Gwent, Celsa Manufacturing UK, Childcare Advice and Training, Coleg Gwent, Dial Contact Centre, ECITB, Environment Agency Wales, EURES, Graduate Careers Advice, Guardian Care Services, Gwent Police, HBOS, Hilton Hotel, HSBC General Insurance and Jobcentre Plus.

It was ideal for those considering a career change because, as well as job and education opportunities, the popular roadshow also has CV and business start-up clinics.

Job Scene was open to all, regardless of age or experience, with top tips from experts who had all the information, advice and techniques to get people started.

There was also plenty of fun and interactive displays for visitors to take part in.

The organisers were keen to hear from anyone who finds a job or decides to make a career change as a result of this year's event - a success story such as that of Martyn Payne, 39, of Pontypool, who visited Job Scene last year after seeing the show advertised in the Argus.

He is now at the University of Wales, Newport, studying for a certificate of higher education after deciding to leave his job as a lab technician and train to be a teacher.

"This time last year I was in a job that I was disliking more each day. "Meeting the people on the stands at Job Scene gave me the confidence to do something about it.

"I am currently having the time of my life training in a career that really matters."
