KILLER Russell Carter's actions stemmed from a disagreement with Kinglsey Monk over some money deducted from his pay.

The dispute over £74.75 would end with the murder of one man and the attempted killing of three of the victims' colleagues.

August 21, 2008
Driverline 247 deducted £74.75 from Carter’s pay, after he had an accident while he was working for them. A disagreement over the money took place between Carter and the company and he did not work with them for a time.

September 13
Driverline 247 fall short of drivers and Kingsley Monk phones Carter to ask him to drive for them again. Carter agrees, on the provision they pay him upfront. A meeting is arranged to hand over the money.

September 14
Carter fails to turn up for the job and Mr Monk leaves Carter an answerphone message.

Sunday, October 19
Carter caught on CCTV buying £11 worth of petrol at Tesco. The boot of the car was open and police believe he may have been filling up other containers as well as the car’s tank.

Monday October 20

8.50am
Gethin Heal arrives at Driverline. He is confronted, threatened, bound and gagged by Carter holding a firearm.

9.05am
Nathan Taylor and Robert Lewis arrive. They are immediately confronted by Carter, who throws petrol over them, which was contained in hot chocolate jars. He then threatens them with a lighter and a firearm. Both men are tied and gagged and placed in the toilet area.

9.10am
Kingsley Monk arrives at the offices and is confronted and apprehended by Carter. The other three men hear a something of a confrontation, but cannot see what is going on.

1.25pm
Incident ends when Gethin Heal escapes to get help at Gwent Auto Factors.

Company owner Derek Allan Styles finds Kingsley Monk dead on the landing of Driverline 247 with his tie tied tightly around his neck.

3.30pm
South Wales Police armed response team surround Carter's home at Penrhos Crescent, Rumney, Cardiff

8.40pm
Carter is arrested at Newport central train station on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and false imprisonment.

Tuesday October 21
Kingsley Monk is named by Gwent Police as the victim. Police searched the area for a hand gun that was used in the incident. Carter is held by police.

Wednesday October 22
Investigating officers in the case were granted an extra 36 hours to question Carter and continue their search for the gun.

Thursday, October 23
Cater was charged with murder, attempted murder and false imprisonment.

Police revealed that Mr Monk died on "pressure to the neck."

Friday, October 24
Carter appeared at Newport magistrates court for the murder of Mr Monk, attempted murder of Robert Lewis, Nathan Taylor and Gethin Heal and four charges of false imprisonment.

Friday, November 13
Inquest opens into the death of Mr Monk. A post mortem confirmed earlier details released by police that he died from pressure to the neck.

Monday, November 24
Around 350 mourners packed St Paul's Church, Newbridge for Mr Monk's funeral.

Tuesday, January 13
Carter appeared at Cardiff Crown court and the case was adjourned and a plea date was set for March 9.

Monday March 9
Carter's case was adjourned until April as papers were not ready to proceed.

Monday, August 24

Carter is convicted of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
