A CWMBRAN hotel was named as having the best ploughman's lunch in Wales.
The Commodore Hotel was the Welsh regional finalist in the West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers Strictly Come Ploughman's competition.
They were up against eight other finalists at the Great British Cheese Festival at Cardiff Castle over the weekend, which saw Bristol pub The Apple claim the Golden Onion award for 2009 for its ploughman's.
Votes were cast through the cheesemakers website before a panel of judges tasted the nine regional finalists offerings and choosing their winner.
Chairman of the judging panel, Philip Crawford, said: "There was tough competition for the Golden Onion, but The Commodore Hotel is clearly a popular choice for locals wanting a traditional, authentic ploughman's with artisan cheese at the heart of this iconic dish on their menu."
