AN ELDERLY woman found dead in a Valleys river yesterday has been named.
Margaret Morgan, 83, was found in the River Ebbw, just off Allotment Road, Beaufort, on Saturday morning.
Police were called to the river, next to the pharmacy and doctors surgery, at 10.12am.
Joanna Rees, 19, of Glyncoed, was staying at her boyfriend's house in Hillside, overlooking the river, on the morning Mrs Morgan's body was found.
She was driving past the scene, about 50 yards away, shortly after the Ebbw Vale woman was found.
She said: "I saw someone on the floor, they'd been pulled out of the river. I saw fire engines, an ambulance, police, the lot and a body bag with a blanket on the floor."
Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a post mortem will be carried out shortly to establish the cause of death.
