MORE THAN 20 new homes could be coming to Blaenavon if planning permission is granted.

An application has been submitted to Torfaen planning committee for the 26 homes to be built at Fairmount Terrace and Fairview Terrace, Garn Road, Garn-yr-Erw.

The proposal is for two rows of terraces fronting onto Garn Road with each row consisting of 13 houses.

Two of the houses will be two-bedroomed, 20 of the houses will be three-bedroomed while the remaining four will have four bedrooms.

The houses will consist of two floors and will have small front porches. They will be made of traditional materials such as natural slate.

Vehicle access will be provided off Garn Road which runs between the two rows of terraces and each house will have space for car parking.

Two rows of cottages known locally as the “Black Ranks” were formerly built on the site but these were demolished in the early 1980s. Since then the site has remained empty and is used as a lay-by by passing vehicles.

Applicant BWB Construction (Wales) Ltd, of Newport, is looking to replicate the two rows of traditional cottages which originally stood at the site.

Their application states: “If the proposed terraces are constructed to a high enough standard of detailing, materials and design, then their introduction would enhance the road from Blaenavon to Brynmawr and consequently the World Heritage Site.”
