AROUND 3,000 people turned out today to support Gwent two main Boxing Day hunts, the Monmouthshire Hunt in Abergavenny, and the Tredegar Farmers’ Hunt at Bassaleg, Newport.
A burst of heavy rain beforehand threatened to put something of a dampener on proceedings in Abergavenny, where some 2,500 gathered outside the Angel Hotel in Abergavenny, and along Cross Street, to cheer off almost 40 riders of the Monmouthshire Hunt and their hounds.
At Bassaleg, the turnout was around 500, the attendance not helped by rain falling as the hunt gathered at the Tredegar Arms car park, the Boxing Day meeting place for 61 years.
